Microsoft launched a new twitter account last week in preparation for the upcoming debut of their Office 2010 software suite. Nothing too exceptional here, except that 20% of the tweets so far have been about a new Zune product, supposedly scheduled for early June:

This prompted a flurry of questions to @officethemovie, which produced this cryptic response:
New product launch, that’s all I’m allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre.
We’ve been expecting the new Zune HD for a while, but why hold off on a Pre or iPhone for a media player? Is this code for a new Zune Phone? The timing couldn’t be better: the new iPhone is dropping at WWDC starting on June 8th, the Pre is rumored to be launching on June 5th or 7th… let the battle begin!
What do you think? Zune phone good? Bad? I always wondered what Microsoft was going to do with Danger, the makers of the spunky little SideKick…
UPDATE: Ooops! Turns out Microsoft goofed and linked to a non-existent twitter account, which some do-gooder noticed and registered, then put out the Zune rumour. MS has confirmed that we won’t see the Zune HD until the fall, and no comment on the Zune Phone. Too bad.
